Welcome to another installment of the Happy Flower Quilt Along! I was hoping to stay more on top of things, but I've just got too much on my plate, with custom orders, working on magazine commissions and secret sewing! We're sewing our way through the sweet quilt in the amazing book Happy Flower Quilts, by Atsuko Matsuyama. To see my previous progress on this quilt, see here, here, and here.
I've gone all lilac and cute for block 11. I love all the fussy cutting to bits...it's like being able to indulge in all my childhood love of things legitimately again! This is Flower Sugar by Lecien, and a Sevenberry floral that just was the perfect match.
Block 12 minus the sashing.I started to rethink me over all colour scheme for the quilt, and realised that using a busy sashing print probably wasn't the way to go. I needed something to to anchor the whole thing together, so didn't put anything on this one yet. These Flower Sugar prints were perfect for fussy cutting the circles from this time. I didn't even have to trace an outline on them...very time saving!
This would have to be my favourite one so far! Block 13 has candy cane stripes from Melly and Me's Flutterberry range. I would never have thought that putting them together with sweet florals would have worked so well! And this one took me absolutely hours to get right. I made it in a plain fabric first, to work on my piecing. I'm certainly learning a huge amount when it comes to maths and piecing.
Block 14 - this is one of the new prints that I'm auditioning. I really like that it's not a solid, but not to busy either. The only problem is that I only have a fat quarter of it, and I'm not sure if I can get more. It's an old Spotlight print that I've had for ages, so I'm on the look out for more, or something pretty similiar.I'm still really enthusiastic about this, and can't wait to show you my next four blocks, next week!
