There's something so free and innocent about playing with a bold happy colour palette!

Do you appreciate a rainbow stack of fabrics?

For me it evokes feelings of childhood, taking me back to getting a new box of coloured pencils or paints.

Remember when you just had to draw rainbows and colour them in, to try out all the different shades?

Well there's something so free and innocent about playing with a bold happy colour palette!

Whatever season of the year you're in, it's the perfect mood lifter!

As soon as my Crystal Lattice pattern had taken shape, I was envisioning a rainbow version of the baby quilt.

I had the perfect fabric already in my stash...the Kindred Spirits collection by Riley Blake.

I used the colour palette from that to pull out a range of happy Kona solids, and then redrew my pattern in these rainbow colours

I'm happy to share with this FREE pattern add-on, so you can make your own cheerful version.

Rainbow Baby Crystal Lattice - A FREE Pattern Add-on - That stained glass feeling

That moment when you spread out your finished top for the first time and get to appreciate no more raw edges!

And don't you just adore the stained glass window effect you get from light shining through a quilt top?

Look at all those beautifully pressed seams!

It gets me every time!

This fabric collection also has the perfect stripes in it for binding.

I love how the bold pink pulls the centre out to the edges, and repeats it in such a satisfying way.

Stripes would have to be my favourite choice for binding a quilt, as they just seem to add the perfect frame to the picture.

However, I didn't use to love making striped binding, as matching the stripes never ended nicely.

They were always a little bit off, which just annoyed me.

A few years ago I stumbled upon this foolproof method for matching those striped sections perfectly.

Watch my video below for two quick tips!

I chose this cream floral from the collection for the backing, and it's the real hero here!

Infact, I find starting with a print that you really love, and then using it as the basis for a solids fabric pull, is the perfect way to go about putting together a palette.

It's another happy pop of colour to play peek-a-boo with!

Rainbow Baby Crystal Lattice - A FREE Pattern Add-on - just hangin' around

While I've used a few prints on the front of this quilt, I've written the pattern add-on all in solids.

You can totally choose to put some prints  in as well, just substitute where necessary.

I tried out this zig-zag serpentine stitch for the first time on this quilt, and was happily surprised at the effect.

Up until now I really didn't like that wavy effect, but it does add a sweet bit of character.

I stitched with the wavy stitch through one direction between the diamonds,

and then sewed with straight stitch from point to point on all the diamond on the other direction.

I love the overall effect!
