A few weeks ago I was really delighted to be asked by Melanie McNeice of Melly&Me to sew some samples with her new line Mini Fun Fair, for the Fall Quilt Market in Houston. This is Melly's first line with Aussie fabric house Ella Blue, and it is just gorgeous. As with all her previous lines, Melly just hits it out of the park with these gorgeous designs! I've been a big fan of Melly's fabric lines for a long time now, and have made several projects already from her previous lines...her designs are always just perfect.
The Mini Fun Fair prints are all small scale, and there are lots tiny stripes which are just perfect for making candycane style piping...YUM! Just look at this delicious roll...
I decided on making a couple of little floor cushions in a triangle design, to showcase as many of the prints as possible. They measure 30cm x 40cm, and are 10cm high. These are just a riot of colour, perfect for busy toddlers with cute, cute bottoms.
I decorated them with fairground style words that echoed some of the type on Melly's prints, to bring all the magic and wonder that comes with attending a fun country show. These are appliqued with shiny polyester thread and outlined again with a contrasting colour to make them pop.
I also had fun warping the text in Illustrator to add an unexpected element into the mix, and echo the madness of riding a rollercoaster.
I also really like the triangular gusset around the edges of the cushion. It was really exciting to see that the design ideas in my head actually looked even better finished! And just look at all those cute little trains, elephants, and starbursts...so sweet!
And and of course I couldn't leave out the little cutie that Melly ordered as well...one of my Charlie bunnies, also dressed in her fabrics...the tiny scale of the prints worked so well for making this little pinnie! I just adore everything miniature, so tiny stripes, 5mm buttons, and tulle, all just SO. MUCH. CUTE!!
Charlie also got little Mary Jane's and a matching headband.
And here she is with her matching box, all ready to go off to the Australian Quilt Market earlier this November. It was so exciting to see her sitting there with all of Melly's lovely softies. They looked like great pals!
Thankyou again to Melly for letting me having a play with this delightful line.Mini Fun Fair will be available soon in stores, for you to create masterpieces for your special little ones...
